EMPOWERING FLORIDA'S CITIZENS OF TOMORROW THROUGH ECONOMIC UNDERSTANDING
Meeting An Ever-Growing Need Since 1975
For more than 30 years, the Florida Council on Economic Education has been
preparing Florida's young people to make sound, personal financial decisions
and to assume productive roles in our free enterprise system. The Council
has trained thousands of Florida teachers to teach students from
Kindergarten through 12th grade to be financially savvy and to understand
the underlying economic principles of personal financial management.
Support for Florida's Teachers
The Florida Council on Economic Education offers a variety of innovative and
time-tested programs that comply with Sunshine State Standards. These
include:
- The Financial Freedom Series teaches the students the basics of money management. It is available in both English and Spanish.
- The Florida Stock Market Challenge teaches students about our economy through their management of a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio.
- Through "Strive to Drive, "students learn the economics of buying and maintaining a car.
- And, the Florida Governor's Awards recognizes teachers' classroom innovations in teaching economics.
Lifetime Dividends
Economic education pays handsome dividends for the entire state and nation.
When young people learn to successfully navigate an increasingly complex and
rapidly changing economy, they become financially self-reliant adults.
Through the Florida Council on Economic Education and their teachers who are
trained by the Council, young people learn to manage the financial aspects of their lives. And, everyone benefits.
The Council's Partnerships with Florida Teachers
Every school year, thousands of Florida teachers receive the training and
materials they need to deliver life-changing economic education to their
students. Because of the support of Florida's Legislature and civic-minded
corporations and individuals, the Council is able to serve teachers and
their students with time-tested programs that truly make a difference.
